abstract There is provided a process for preparing a polymerization catalyst comprising contacting a support comprising alumina with a sulfiding agent and chromium. The support may be calcined after addition of sulfiding agent and chromium on the support. Alternatively, the sulfiding agent can be added to the support while calcining the support. Alternatively, the support may be calcined after contacting the support with the sulfiding agent and prior to contacting the organochrome compound. There is provided a catalyst composition comprising chromium and a sulfated alumina support formed by the process. The catalyst composition has increased catalytic activity. There is provided a polymer preparation method comprising the step of contacting said catalyst composition with at least one olefin. The polymer composition exhibits relatively low levels of long chain branches and a relatively high molecular weight.
