abstract The membrane electrode assembly of the present invention includes at least one of a catalyst layer of an oxygen electrode and a catalyst layer of a fuel electrode, a carrier carrying a catalyst metal containing a platinum group element, a proton conductive polymer electrolyte,n n n (a) a complexing agent having a ligand that forms a complex by coordinating with ions of the platinum group element, wherein the ligand contains oxygen as a ligand, and (b) a complex of the platinum group element, wherein The ligand is a complex containing oxygen as the ligand, (c) the BET specific surface area is at least 100 m 2 / g of carbon, (i) the R value in the Raman spectrum is 0.5 or less, and (ii) the plane of (002) plane. The gap d 002 satisfies at least one of 0.35 nm or less, and is characterized by including at least one selected from carbon not supporting the catalyst metal. By using the membrane electrode assembly of the present invention, it is possible to provide a solid polymer fuel cell having high durability and a long service life.
