titleOfInvention Photochromic materials with electron-withdrawing substituents
abstract The present invention discloses photochromic materials comprising indeno-fused naphthopyrans having a first electron-drawing substituent and, in certain non-limiting embodiments, a second electron-drawing substituent. Photochromic materials according to various embodiments of the present invention may exhibit faster fade rates, redshifts, and higher performance ratings when compared to similar indeno-fused naphthopyrans without electron-drawing substituents. The invention also discloses photochromic compositions and articles, such as optical devices, incorporating such photochromic materials.
