The present invention provides matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors useful for promoting the development of healthy skin and for treating wounds. Such inhibitors are peptides having sequences associated with cleavage regions of the proenzyme form of matrix metalloproteinases. Peptide inhibitors of the invention can be formulated into therapeutic compositions, lotions, creams, skin coverings and wound dressings that promote healing and healthy skin development, prevent scars and wrinkles, and improve healing effects. . |
