abstract A topical composition is disclosed that includes an extract of Hypsizygus ulmarius in an amount effective to affect LTB4-mediated chemotaxis and / or IL-1β mediated adhesion of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Hypsizygus ulmarius extract can be used alone or in combination with secondary anti-inflammatory and skin active agents such as other mushrooms and / or natural extracts. Secondary anti-inflammatory agents may or may not function by antagonizing LTB4-mediated chemotaxis and IL-1β mediated attachment. The extract can be introduced into a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.
