titleOfInvention | Purification of Carboxylic Acids by Complexing with Selective Solvents |
abstract | Methods and apparatuses for purifying carboxylic acids are described. The mixture containing the crude carboxylic acid is contacted with a selective crystallization solvent to form a slurry of salt complexes of the carboxylic acid and the selective crystallization solvent. The salt complex is recovered and optionally processed to recover the free carboxylic acid. The method and apparatus of the present invention are particularly suitable for purifying aromatic dicarboxylic acids such as terephthalic acid. The invention also oxidizes the carboxybenzaldehyde to the corresponding phthalic acid, thereby lowering the contaminants by the carboxybenzaldehyde isomer in the crude phthalic acid.n n n n Carboxylic acids, salt complexes, dicarboxylic acids, carboxybenzaldehyde, phthalic acid. |
