abstract | The present invention performs wide viewing angle compensation for liquid crystal cells, allows circularly polarized light to be obtained over a wide wavelength wavelength range, contributes to a reduction in thickness, prevents thermal imbalances from occurring, and light leakage in black displays. The polarizing plate with an optical compensation layer which prevents this from occurring is provided. The polarizer includes a polarizer, a first optical compensation layer, and a second optical compensation layer, which are stacked together in this order. The first optical compensation layer is formed of a liquid crystal compound and has a relationship of nx> ny = nz, and has an in-plane retardation Re 1 of 100 to 170 nm. The second optical compensation layer has a relationship of nx = ny> nz, and the thickness direction retardation Rth 2 is 30 to 400 nm.
