titleOfInvention | Method and apparatus for reducing impurities in cellulose fibers for the production of fiber reinforced cement composites |
abstract | A method of making high purity fiber cement grade cellulose fibers is described. Additional washing steps associated with elevated temperatures are used as a process to rinse the pulp extensively and substantially remove all residual COD components in the pulp. The pulp is backwashed by diffusion and dehydration at elevated temperature after the brown stock washer system. During further washing steps, the pulp may be immersed in countercurrent heated water for a predetermined time and certain chemicals may be introduced to chemically remove the COD components in the pulp and make them more soluble in aqueous solution. Additional washing steps can be carried out using existing equipment in conventional pulp mills. Formulations and methods are also described for making fiber reinforced cement composite materials using high purity cellulose fibers having a low COD content. Pulp with a lower COD content has better performance in the production of fiber reinforced cement composites. High purity fibers with a low COD content require smaller amounts to achieve the same reinforcement efficiency as compared to regular cellulose fibers.n n n n Cellulose fibers, blends of cellulose fiber reinforced cement composites, chemical oxygen demand components, delignified fiber materials, fiber pulp, countercurrent washing. |
