titleOfInvention Photochromic compounds
abstract Non-limiting embodiments disclosed herein generally relate to photochromic compounds, which can be either thermally reversible or non-thermally reversible, and articles made therefrom. Another non-limiting embodiment relates to a photochromic dichroic compound, which can be thermally reversible or non-thermally reversible. For example, one non-limiting embodiment includes a heat modified such that the thermally reversible photochromic compound has at least a first state and a second state having an average absorption ratio greater than 2.3 in at least one state as measured according to the cell method. Provided are reversible photochromic compounds. Another non-limiting embodiment includes (a) one or more photochromic groups selected from pyrans, oxazines and fullides, and (b) attached to the one or more photochromic groups and is of the formula-[S 1 ] c- [ Q 1- [S 2 ] d ] d ' -[Q 2- [S 3 ] e ] e' -[Q 3- [S 4 ] f ] f ' -S 5 -P, wherein each substituent is Photochromic compounds comprising one or more extenders (L), as disclosed).
