| abstract | The panty-type disposable absorbent article includes an absorbent chassis, a pair of opposing side panels, one or more removable couplings, and one or more folded fasteners. The absorption chassis defines a pair of side edges that face in the lateral direction and a pair of waist edges that face in the longitudinal direction. The side panel extends between the sides of the absorbent chassis and defines the waist opening and the pair of leg openings of the panty-type disposable absorbent article. Each opposing side panel defines a first side margin that is permanently attached to the side edge of the absorbent chassis in one waist region of the absorbent article to provide a permanent bond. In addition, at least one of the opposing side panels defines a second side margin opposing a first side margin detachably attached to the side edge of the absorbent chassis in the other waist region of the absorbent article to provide a detachable engagement portion. The folded over fasteners are positioned adjacent to the removable coupling, and the folded over fasteners are unfolded after the removable couplings are detached to refasten the second side margin of the at least one side panel to the opposing waist region of the absorbent article.
