titleOfInvention Microgel Synthesis Method and Products Produced therefrom
abstract In one aspect, the present invention is directed to RAFT polymerization of one or more solvating monomers and one or more lipophilic monomers in the presence of a RAFT chain transfer agent so as to be soluble in one or more solubilizing blocks and dispersion media insoluble in the dispersion medium. Provided are methods for preparing microgels by forming one or more block copolymers containing one or more phosphate blocks. The block copolymer is dispersed in a dispersion medium to form micelles, which are then stabilized to form microgels. The dispersion medium may be aqueous or lipophilic. The process of the invention also enables the encapsulation of a wide variety of materials such as pigments, dye molecules, and aluminum flakes used in metallized paints. n n n Microgels, Solvent-Soluble Monomers, Solvent-Soluble Monomers, RAFT Polymerization
