abstract It is to provide a method capable of quantitatively determining the characteristics of the structure with the number of graphite of the graphite structure in the gray cast iron and the specific degree of constituent graphite. Specifically, only the non-spherical graphite having an average diameter of 5 µm or more is extracted for the image of the graphite structure subjected to the pretreatment to calculate the number thereof (step S5 in FIG. 3). Moreover, only the graphite whose length is less than 150 micrometers is extracted from 50 micrometers or more, and the length and area of each graphite are measured (step S6). From these data, in order to represent the graphite group, a graphite having a maximum length (maximum diameter) of 100 µm is assumed, and the area thereof is obtained, and the area is excluded from 100 µm of the length (step S7). The value of this non-hydrophobicity is displayed with graphite number (step S8).
