Method and media for making optically readable media unreadable |
abstract |
Methods and media are provided that make an optically readable medium 20 unreadable. The method comprises the steps of (a) providing a medium with a light activation mechanism that degrades the reflectivity of the surface on which the information is encrypted; (b) exposing the medium 20 for reading information to light irradiation; And (c) initiating the action of the light activating mechanism during the exposing step. In this embodiment the starting step comprises the steps of: (d) generating singlet oxygen in the layer disposed in the medium; And (e) reacting the metal-containing layer to oxidize the surface of the metal-containing layer to singlet oxygen to reduce the reflectance of the surface. The generating step includes diffusing singlet oxygen through a diffusion wall disposed between the layer and the metal containing layer. In another embodiment the method deforms the surface of the layer to prevent it from staying exactly on the read beam aberration or track. In another embodiment, a portion of the surface is moved into the air, such as evaporation or sublimation. |
