titleOfInvention | Rf body coil |
abstract | The present invention includes an overall body RF coil system 61 for use in an open magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system 10. The RF coil system 61 includes first and second orthogonal RF coil sets 36, 38 located on opposite sides of the imaging space 12. Each RF coil set 36, 38 includes multiple RF coils of similar structure. Each orthogonal RF coil 62, 64, 66, 68 has a first and second plurality of main path conductor segments 82, 94, and first and second return paths symmetrically disposed with respect to the centerline at specified distances. Conductors 104, 106. The first and second plurality of main path conductor segments comprise a first plane located further away from the second plane 114 and away from the imaging space 12 comprising the first and second return path conductors 104, 106. 84). The conductors 90, 92, 96, 98 in each of the first and second sets of main path conductor segments 82, 94 are adapted to have a predetermined current magnitude ratio. When activating the orthogonal first and second RF coil sets 36, 38 to generate a circular polarized B 1 magnetic field 40, the position of the conductors and the predetermined current magnitude ratio are within the imaging space 12. It provides the desired uniformity of and the desired sensitivity drop outside the imaging space (12). |
