It contains an inert fine particle and contains an ester wax of aliphatic monocarboxylic acid and polyalcohol having 8 or more carbon atoms with a film layer or inert fine particle having a particle aggregation rate on the film surface of the inert fine particle in the range of 4 to 20%. A base film for a magnetic recording medium having a film layer having a surface water contact angle of 70 to 90 degrees.
