abstract The present invention relates to an intravaginal insertion device for pigs of a shape and size suitable for mounting in the vaginal cavity across the hymen of a subject animal (such as a young sow) used to extend the hymen of the animal to both sides. Once inserted, the instrument delivers progesterone to both sides of the hymen ring from the progesterone injection matrix. The progesterone emitting surface has a total area of at least 150 cm 2.n n n Various deformable means (preferably for the engagement of the estuary) allow for maintenance of the instrument (for at least 7 to 14 days). Preferably the instrument carries 1.9 g to 2.5 g of progesterone within 1.2 mm of the release surface and maintains the plasma level of the progesterone that is equal to or greater than 4 ng / mL of the progesterone plasma measured in ovary-cut animals.
