titleOfInvention Process for preparing ethyl acetate
abstract The present invention relates to a process for preparing ethyl acetate. For example, ethanol is dehydrogenated in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst such as a copper catalyst on silica. The liquefied product present in the mixture of intermediate reaction products obtained is selectively hydrogenated on a suitable catalyst, such as 5% ruthenium on carbon, so that the reactive carbonyl containing byproduct is selectively hydrogenated with alcohol. In this way, the boiling point similar to ethyl acetate is hydrogenated to butan-2-one and n - butyraldehyde2-butanol and n - butanol, respectively, which makes the purification of ethyl acetate product difficult. A two step distillation process is then used for the purification of the selective hydrogenation product. Typically, the first distillation zone is preferably operated at an absolute pressure of less than about 4 bar (4 × 10 5 Pa) and the second distillation zone is from about 4 bar (4 × 10 5 Pa) to about 25 bar (2.5) Operating at a pressure of 10 6 Pa). The primary distillate comprising ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water produced in the first distillation zone is redistilled in the second distillation zone, typically comprising from about 99.8 mol% to about 99.95 mol% ethyl acetate. A second distillate of the upper layer having a composition between the bottom product and the composition produced in the first distillation zone. The second distillate is then returned to the upper point of the feed point for the liquefied product of the first distillation zone, preferably the mixture of the selective hydrogenation reaction product.n n n n Ethyl acetate, distillation, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, boiling point
