The intermetallic compound 107 is dispersed in the silicon phase 106 and is an electrode material 103 for a lithium secondary battery containing silicon as a main component and containing alloy particles having an average particle diameter of 0.02 µm to 5 µm. The crystallite size of the alloy is not less than 2 nm and not more than 500 nm, and at least one kind of intermetallic compound 107 containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum, zinc, indium, antimony, bismuth, and lead has a silicon phase 106.
