titleOfInvention Fuel cell assembly
abstract A pair of flows defining an electrolyte layer 2, a pair of diffusion electrode layers 3 and 4 with an electrolyte layer interposed therebetween, a fuel in contact with the diffusion electrode layer, and passages 10 and 11 for oxidant fluid. In a fuel cell assembly having a plurality of cells each having a distribution plate 5, the fuel cells are arranged on a common plane. Thus, the vertical dimension of the fuel cell assembly can be minimized and a fuel cell assembly of advantageous electrical characteristics can be achieved. Each flow distribution plate is typically formed with a traffic passage communicating with a defined fluid passage on each side of the electrolyte layer in a defined pattern. The traffic passages and through holes communicate with the fluid passages in such a way that adjacent fuel cells have opposite polarities.
