abstract | The present invention relates to a process for producing 1,4-butanediol, γ-butyrolactone, and tetrahydrofuran by vapor phase hydrogenation of C 4 -dicarboxylic acids. Maleic anhydride containing the vapor phase is contacted with the high boiling solvent in the absorption zone. The waste gas stream passes through a scrubbing zone containing a second high boiling solvent. The waste gas is removed and the first and second solvents are recovered and recycled. Maleic anhydride is obtained in the absorption zone, converted to maleic acid diesters, and stripped from the first solvent using hydrogen. The desired product is obtained by hydrogenation. |
