The present invention relates to a structure (12) adapted to be introduced into a vascular system, esophagus, organ, colon, bile duct or urinary tract; A layer of at least one bioactive material 18 located on one surface of the structure 12 and a layer of biologically active material 18 located on one surface of the structure 12 and on a surface free of bioactive material (10) that includes at least one porous layer (20) that provides a barrier to tissue adhesion. The structure 12 is preferably a coronary stent. The porous layer 20 comprises a polymer that is preferably applied by vapor phase or plasma deposition, which provides controlled release of the bioactive material. It is particularly preferred that the polymer is a polyamide, parylene or parylene derivative deposited by condensation of the monomer vapor only, without solvent, heat or catalyst. The present invention also relates to a method of using the device as well as a method of manufacturing the device (10). |
