titleOfInvention Environmentally stable products derived from the remediation of contaminated sediments and soils
abstract The present invention relates to the modification and purification of soil and soil contaminated by organic and inorganic contaminants. New environmentally stable products are produced when mixing certain additives such as calcium oxide into the contaminated material. In the process, the mixture is produced as a molten reaction product through heating to 1150 to 1500 ° C., continuously aeration of excess oxygen mixture or at least a portion of air between the melts to allow mixing and pyrolysis of organic contaminants. Improves the removal and removal efficiency. The melt is then quenched in wet air, steam or water to prevent crystallization of the amorphous material. Inorganic contaminants such as chromium, nickel, and zinc are incorporated into the amorphous silicate reticulum and completely fixed. The amorphous material may be formed into a powder through milling, which exhibits cementitious properties such that the powder is reacted with an alkaline solution or mixed with other materials to form a mixed cement. The compressive strength of concrete made from the powder of the present invention and mixtures thereof is comparable to or greater than ASTM's requirement for general purpose concrete. The powders of the invention, and the mixed cements, concrete / mortar derived from these powders, also easily pass the EPA TCLP leaching test to achieve environmental tolerance.
