A separate fastener component for use with complementary separate fastener components has a base member having a mating surface and a non-engaging surface. On the joining surface, the joining elements are arranged in a pattern including an inner region not covered with the joining elements and a peripheral region surrounding the inner region and having the joining elements covered. The peripheral region may be rectangular, or may be annular rather than rectangular. The engagement element may be a hook or a loop. The fastener component may be integrated into the molded article with minimal entry of the molding material into the engagement elements in its inner region. The perimeter cover forms a gasket seal with the mold in a number of different forms and prevents the inflow of molding material into the inner region where the coupling elements are not covered. Since the engagement element in the uncovered inner region functions normally, the peripheral cover does not need to be removed for use of the fastener component. An assembly line for manufacturing the fastener component and a method for embedding the fastener component in a product are also disclosed. |
