The present invention relates to a novel secreted polypeptide termed osteoprotegerin, which is a component of the tumor necrosis factor receptor phase and is involved in bone metabolism regulation. The invention also relates to nucleic acids, polypeptides, recombinant vectors and expression host cells encoding osteoprotegerin, antibodies and pharmaceutical compositions that bind to OPG. Polypeptides of the invention are used in the treatment of bone diseases characterized by increased absorption, such as osteoporosis. |
