abstract |
The present invention relates to a process for preparing polyisobutene using a cationic polymerization catalyst from a feedstock composed of a mixture of C4 hydrocarbons and containing 1-butene at least 5% by weight, before polymerization, the feedstock Is subjected to a pretreatment step to reduce its 1-butene content to at least 20% lower than the level of 1-butene content in the first mixed C4 hydrocarbon feedstock prior to pretreatment of the feedstock and the polyisobutenes thus formed (a ) Has a very high content of vinylidene groups and (b) is substantially halogen free. |
