| abstract | The present invention relates to a unique absorbent article comprising a back sheet layer and an absorbent retainer superimposed thereon. The retention portion has a length and a width and has its side edges facing in the lateral direction and its short edges facing in the longitudinal direction. The surge treatment section is disposed adjacent to the body side surface of the holding section. This surge treatment section is configured to temporarily receive the received liquid and discharge it to the holding section. This surge treatment section has a width, its side edges facing and its short edges facing, and has a length smaller than the length of the retaining portion. The edge part of the surge treatment part is located inward in the longitudinal direction from the edge part of the holding part. The porous top sheet layer is disposed opposite to the back sheet layer so as to sandwich the retaining portion and the surge treatment portion between the back sheet layer and the top sheet layer. The top sheet layer has its edge region attached to the edge region of the back sheet layer. The attached edge region of each of the top sheet layer and the back sheet layer is located laterally outward of the side edge of the surge treatment portion. The surfactant material is applied to the center of the top sheet layer to provide greater wettability at this center than the rest of the top sheet layer. This central portion has a width substantially smaller than the width of the surge treatment portion. |
