abstract The present invention provides compositions and methods for controlling ras gene expression in humans with normal and activated forms. The present invention provides an oligonucleotide having a methylene (methyllimino) linking group which alternately binds to a phosphorothioate linking group or a phosphodiester linking group. The present invention also provides an oligonucleotide having a first region having a methylene (methyllimino) linking group that crosslinks a phosphorothioate linking group or a phosphodiester linking group and a second region having a phosphorothioate linking group. Such oligonucleotides are used in diagnostics as well as for research purposes, including methods for diagnosing, detecting, and treating diseases resulting from the activation of human H-ras genes.
