titleOfInvention Method for decomposing bromic acid by photocatalyst and apparatus therefor
abstract The present invention relates to a method for decomposing bromate ions contained in a liquid. The method includes the steps of contacting a liquid with a photocatalyst and irradiating the photocatalyst with light rays having an energy not lower than the bandgap of the photocatalyst, thereby generating a photocatalytic reaction to decompose bromate ions. The invention also relates to an apparatus for decomposing bromate ions contained in a liquid. The apparatus includes a first chamber for decomposing bromate ions by causing a photocatalytic reaction therein; A photocatalyst in contact with the liquid in the first chamber; And a light source for irradiating the photocatalyst with light rays having an energy not lower than a bandgap of the photocatalyst to cause a photocatalytic reaction in the first chamber when the photocatalyst is in contact with the liquid. Therefore, bromate ions can be effectively and stably decomposed. The photocatalyst may include titanium and at least one metal oxide having a lower electronegativity than titanium. In this case, the pH of the liquid can be omitted before and after the photocatalytic reaction.
