| abstract | An article having a front waistband portion 38, a back waistband portion 40, and an intermediate portion interconnecting the front and back waistband portions consists of a backsheet layer 22 and a pair of side panels. The stress beam portion 98 is connected to each side panel 90 along its free end region, the beam portion 98 providing a relatively high Gurley stiffness and at least a significant and significant length of the length of the free end region of the side panel. It has a length dimension that is a percentage. The securing mechanism is connected to each stress beam portion and arranged to extend transversely from each side panel to secure the waistband portion of the article to the wearer.
