Elastic substantially linear olefin polymers |
abstract |
The present invention is directed to substantially linear, olefinic polymers with elasticity, having processability similar to highly branched low density polyethylene (LDPE) but with the strength and toughness of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). These polymers have a processing index of 70% or less of the processing index (PI) of the control linear polymer and are at least 50% higher than conventional linear olefin polymers at the start of surface melt fracture at the same I 2 and M w / M n . Has a critical shear rate. The novel polymers also have from 0.01 to 3 long chain branches per 1000 carbons along the polymer backbone, with higher low shear viscosity / zero shear viscosity and lower high shear viscosity than the control linear polymer. The novel polymers also have a melt flow rate (I 10 / I 2 ) of at least 5.63, a molecular weight distribution (M w / M n ) and overall as defined by the equation M w / M n ≤ (I 10 / I 2 ) -4.63. Have a critical shear stress of at least 4 × 10 6 dyn / cm 2 at the onset of melt fracture. |
