abstract |
The inexpensive manufacturing process involved in making large objects of void-free high silica glass relies on gelling by drying and burning liquid sol of colloidal silica particles. The absence of cracks in the dried gel is the result of the inclusion of a polymeric material that wets the particles. The polymeric material is removed by thermal decomposition with the temperature obtained during combustion. |
