titleOfInvention Improved Methods for Selective Hydrogenation of Conjugated Diene Polymers
abstract Producing a living polymer by polymerizing or copolymerizing at least one conjugated diene with an organic alkali metal polymerization initiator in a suitable solvent, stopping the polymerization by the addition of hydrogen, and at least one polymer in the absence of hydrocarbon lithium and alkoxy lithium compounds Provided is an improved process for the hydrogenation of conjugated diene polymers that effect selective hydrogenation of double bonds in conjugated diene units of a stopped polymer by contacting with hydrogen in the presence of a bis (cyclopentadienyl) titanium compound. An improvement is the use of alkyl benzoates as promoters in the hydrogenation step. Methyl benzoate is the most preferred promoter.
