abstract | A method for preparing an elastomer having low hysteresis characteristics includes reacting an anionic polymer having a functional group with about 1 equivalent of a sulfoxide compound represented by the following formula to make an additive product; Andn n n n n n n n Wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl and sulfur substituted alkyl having about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having about 3 to about 20 carbon atoms, aryl having about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms and halogen substituted aryl and having about 7 to about 20 carbon atoms. Organic group selected from the group consisting of alkyl.n n n Curing the addition product in the presence of a suitable curing catalyst is included. Products such as tires made from low hysteresis elastomeric polymers have low rolling tablets. |
