abstract The present invention relates to a process for modifying the separation of alkanes, alkanes-likes and carbonyl-containing impurities from recycles during the production of acetic acid by carbonylation of methanol to improve the recycle quality of certain residues. Improvements include operating the prior art stripper columns in reflux and adding water to distribute the residue therefrom. In addition, the method reduces the waste of highly valuable recycleable reactants.
