abstract | A method for purifying acetic acid containing at least one component selected from the group consisting of an organic iodine compound, a metal iodine compound, an iodine ion, an unsaturated compound and a carbonyl compound as an impurity, the acetic acid being purified by a distillation column having at least 30 stages. The purification method of acetic acid, which consists of refining the distillation column by operating at a reflux ratio of at least 4 under a pressure in the range of 40 to 760 mmHg, provides a potassium permanganate test economically without adding any chemicals and adding much energy to the acetic acid to be purified.
