abstract | Solution solutions for the preparation of high molecular weight polymers of alpha-olefins, ie homopolymers of ethylene, and copolymers of ethylene and C 3 -C 12 alpha-olefins, and catalysts therefor are described. The method is operated under solution polymerization conditions at 105-320 ° C. The catalyst is obtained from titanium tetrahalides, vanadium oxytrihalides and organoaluminum compounds, wherein the mixture of catalyst components is heat treated at 180-250 ° C. and subsequently cooled to a temperature of 150 ° C. or less. Then additional vanadium oxytrihalide is added. The resulting catalyst solution is activated with aluminum compound. The catalyst has good activity, and additional vanadium oxytrihalides do not or are added at temperatures above 150 ° C. and show good activity for the added catalyst. |
