titleOfInvention Seat belt retractor
abstract The safety belt retractor has a belt gripper or a braking mechanism that is movable between the belt gripping position and the non-operating position. The braking mechanism includes a braking contact that forces the seat belt strap to engage with one surface and firmly frictionally engage the opposing surface of the strap with a compressible elastomeric pad having a high coefficient of friction. The fibers of the sinen belt are compressed into a compressible pad and the pad protrudes into the gap strengths between the fibers. The gripping action by the pad actually increases the traction load, for example about 10 percent (10%).
