Provided is a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which suppresses deterioration of battery characteristics due to exposure to the atmosphere and has excellent battery capacity. Formula (1): Li a Ni 1 -x-y Co x M y O 2 + α ( although, 0.05 ≦ x ≦ 0.35,0 ≦ y ≦ 0.10,0.95 ≦ a ≦ 1.10 , 0 ≦ α ≦ 0.2, M is a lithium nickel composite oxide represented by (at least one element selected from Mn, V, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti, W and Al), and Li 3 BO. A positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing 3 and Li 3 BO 3 covers at least a part of the surface of the lithium nickel composite oxide, and the content of boron in the positive electrode active material is the positive electrode. A positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which is 0.001% by mass or more and 0.2% by mass or less with respect to the entire active material. |
