abstract An infrared optical system using a wavelength band of 3 to 5 μm includes a first lens having a negative power and a biconcave shape or a concave meniscus shape from the object side to the image side, and a positive power. And a second lens having a biconvex shape and a diaphragm, and a band pass filter is provided between the second lens and the image plane. Each of the first lens and the second lens has at least one aspheric surface, and the bandpass filter has a characteristic of transmitting only light having a wavelength of 3.1 to 3.5 μm. The optical system for infrared rays has a conditional expression: −3.6 <(r1 + r2) / (r1−r2) <− 0.4 (r1, r2: radius of curvature of object side surface and image side surface of first lens), −0. 2 <(r3 + r4) / (r3-r4) <0.2 (r3, r4: radius of curvature of object side surface and image side surface of second lens) is satisfied.
