Proposed is a lithium metal composite oxide having a new layer structure that can improve cycle characteristics when used as a positive electrode active material of a battery. Li1 + xNi1-x-α-β-γMnαCoβMγO2 (where 0 ≦ x ≦ 0.1, 0.01 ≦ α ≦ 0.35, 0.01 ≦ β ≦ 0.35, 0 ≦ γ ≦ 0.05) M is a lithium metal composite oxide having a layer structure represented by the following formula: M is an element including at least one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Mg, Ti, Fe, Zr, W, and Nb. Proposed is a lithium metal composite oxide characterized in that the amount of residual Li2CO3 present in the secondary particles is 0.03 to 0.3 wt%. |
