It is an object of the present invention to provide a new phosphor that can be excited by a broad band of visible light and emit high intensity near infrared light. A crystal phase represented by the formula (1): MCuSi 2 O 6 (wherein M is one or more of Ba, Sr and Ca), and a formula (2): MCuSi 4 O 10 ( M in the formula includes a crystal phase represented by one or more of Ba, Sr and Ca, and is obtained by powder X-ray diffraction measurement (XRD) using CuKα rays. In the XRD pattern, a phosphor is characterized in that the ratio β of the diffraction peak intensity of MCuSi 4 O 10 to the diffraction peak intensity of MCuSi 2 O 6 is 0 <β ≦ 0.50. |
