PSA type which has excellent response performance, has a sufficient pretilt angle, has a small amount of residual monomer, has no defects such as orientation failure and display failure due to low voltage holding ratio (VHR), etc. A liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound for producing a PSVA type liquid crystal display element is provided, and a liquid crystal display element using the same is provided. The liquid crystal composition of the present invention increases the solid phase-nematic phase transition temperature (T cn ) without decreasing the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and the nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature (T ni ). In this liquid crystal composition, the viscosity (η) is sufficiently small, the rotational viscosity (γ1) is sufficiently small, and the elastic constant (K 33 ) is large. As a result, a high voltage holding ratio (VHR) and a high-speed response can be obtained, so that a liquid crystal display element with excellent display quality and a high response speed can be obtained in which there is no display defect such as alignment failure or image sticking. |
