abstract In order to provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of acquiring an image capable of quantitative evaluation of fat and a method for creating a water-fat separation image, an echo signal and a negative electrode in the negative electrode are applied at the same echo time while applying a frequency encoding gradient magnetic field of the positive electrode. An echo signal is acquired during application of the frequency encoding gradient magnetic field, and a correction amount for correcting the influence of the reception frequency characteristic is obtained from the pair of correction echo signals. Using this correction amount, the polarity of the frequency encoding gradient magnetic field is obtained. The influence of the reception frequency characteristics of the positive and negative images obtained by reversing is removed.
