The present invention discloses an organic electroluminescent device (organic EL device) having improved light emission efficiency, sufficient driving stability, and a simple configuration. The organic EL device of the present invention has an organic layer containing a light emitting device material between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate, and the light emitting device material is made of a carborane compound. This carborane compound is a branched carborane compound having three or more carborane rings bonded through an aromatic group, one or more dibenzothiophene rings, and at least one dibenzothiophene ring bonded to the carborane ring. |
