abstract It is an object of the present invention to provide a crucible made of molybdenum or an alloy thereof capable of efficiently producing a large single crystal sapphire. A bottomed cylindrical lower crucible (10) provided with an opening (11) and an upper crucible (20) fitted into the opening (11), the upper crucible (20) is made of molybdenum or an alloy thereof. It is formed by bending the plate (23) and joining both ends of the plate. The lower crucible (10) is formed by drawing a plate material (13) made of molybdenum or its alloy, and the opening (11) extends in the outer peripheral direction of the cylinder and extends in the circumferential direction on the lower crucible side. A flange portion (12) is provided.
