An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran that can be used as a raw material for 1,3-butanediol using a compound derivable from biomass as a raw material. The present invention relates to a method for producing 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran, comprising a step of producing 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran by reaction of 1,4-anhydroerythritol with hydrogen. In the production method, the reaction of 1,4-anhydroerythritol and hydrogen in the above step is carried out by a carrier and a group consisting of an oxide of a Group 6 element and an oxide of a Group 7 element supported on the carrier. It is preferable to proceed in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one selected oxide. |
