abstract An organic electroluminescent device (EL device) using an indolocarbazole compound is provided. In general formula (1), ring I and ring II are the rings represented by formula (1a) and formula (1b) fused with the adjacent ring, A represents C—R or N, and at least one of N. L represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic heterocyclic group, and at least one is a condensed heterocyclic group having 2 to 4 rings. R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic heterocyclic group, p is 0 to 4, q is 0 to 2, r is an integer of 1 to 4 , and X 1 to X 4 are An aromatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic heterocyclic group is shown, l, m, and n show the integer of 0-5.
