abstract | The present invention provides a method for producing an extract containing a sphingoid base, and a functional food or pharmaceutical composition containing the obtained extract. The method for producing an extract containing a sphingoid base of the present invention comprises (1) a step of extracting a lipid containing sphingolipid from a natural product, and (2) an extract obtained by the step (1). A step of obtaining a glycosphingolipid by fractionation by chromatography, and (3) a step of acid-hydrolyzing the glycosphingolipid and then extracting and removing fatty acid methyl esters and free fatty acids from the decomposition product. The resulting extract has a high intestinal hormone secretion-promoting function per calorie or per molecule (number of moles) and is difficult to be absorbed from the intestinal tract, so functional foods and pharmaceuticals that can be used for the prevention or treatment of obesity, diabetes, or intestinal diseases.
