To provide a novel chiral iridium (III) complex, and to use a chiral iridium (III) complex in an economical and easy-to-operate manner to convert 2-substituted quinolines to optically active 2-substituted-1,2 , 3,4-tetrahydroquinolines are provided. Formula [I]: A quinoline compound represented by Formula [II], characterized by reduction in the presence of an iridium (III) complex having a chiral proline amide compound as a ligand and a hydrogen-donating compound: A process for producing an optically active 2-substituted-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline represented by the formula: |
