abstract An object of the present invention is to detect deterioration of a selective reduction type NOx catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine with higher accuracy. The degradation detection apparatus for a selective reduction type NOx catalyst according to the present invention is based on the NOx concentration of exhaust flowing into the selective reduction type NOx catalyst and the NOx concentration of exhaust flowing out of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst. A NOx purification rate calculation unit for calculating the NOx purification rate is provided. The temperature of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst is a temperature at which the NOx purification rate starts to decrease in response to an increase in the temperature of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst when the degradation degree of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst is the upper limit of the allowable range. When it is equal to or greater than (Tc0), it is determined whether or not the selective reduction type NOx catalyst has deteriorated based on the NOx purification rate.
